Spatial Gait Parameters

Stride Length (CV)
Step Length (CV)
Time of Toe-off (CV)
Proportion of Single Limb Support (CV)
Proportion of Double Limb Support (CV)
CV : Coefficient of Variance
  • In case of old person or patient, the cadence tends to increase under the same age and gait speed. Then the stride length and step length are shortened.
  • With the preferred gait speed, if the time of toe-off is less than 60%, precise diagnosis is required.
  • With the preferred gait speed, if the proportion of single limb support is greater than 40% and the proportion of double limb support is less than 20%, precise diagnosis is required.
  • When the stride lengths, step lengths, times of toe-off, proportions of single limb support, proportions of double limb support for right and left foots are greatly different, precise diagnosis is required.
  • When the CV (coefficient value) for stride length, step length, time of toe-off, proportion of single limb support, proportion of double limb support is comparatively great, gait instability increases.

Temporal Gait Parameters

Gait Speed
Cadence
  • The preferred gait speed tends to be lowered when age is increased.
  • If any symptom, the preferred gait speed for the same age was low compared to normal average.
  • Even if the same gait speed appears, the cadency tends to increase according to the increase of age.
  • Under the same age and gait speed, if the cadence is 1.5 to 2 times greater than normal average, precise diagnosis is required.
